How To Clean A Smith And Wesson Governor

| Hey all, I recently purchased a matte silver Governor as my first firearm. Forgive my ignorance but I'm having trouble deciding on maintenance materials (Cleaning solutions, oils, bore snakes). There seems to be an endless variety of all and it's a bit much for a newbie who doesn't want ruin his first gun. Any recommendations as far as cleaning solutions? Are there all in one cleaners (cleaning solution & oil) to keep it simple? I'm eager to start but obviously need to get its first cleaning done. |

| To avoid a step-by-step long reply, why not go to YouTube and do a search. There are many good videos on cleaning there, but I don't know if you need one specific to your gun. Good luck! |

It's convenient to have a short cleaning rod and a bronze bore brush, an old rag or two, maybe a well-worn toothbrush for nooks and crannies. Any cleaner/lube product will be fine. BreakFree CLP is widely available, relatively inexpensive, and except under the most extreme conditions of use will do the jobs of cleabning, lubricating, and protecting. __________________ |

| I have tried most of the cleaners and lubes. I am currently using MPro7, since it smells like water, and seems to get the job done. I like Boeshield or CorrosionX for lube, and protection from rust. A little goes a long way. I just ordered a couple of small bottles with needle caps for precise application of oil. I think they will work well with Boeshield. Best, Last edited by riverrat38; 02-11-2018 at 11:39 PM. |
